Until she came to Amber Dental! Hear Raluca’s story about her long-awaited smile makeover and how it changed the way she felt about herself.

Being a parent is a huge responsibility. You have to keep them safe and healthy, but you also have to learn how to gradually let go inch by inch as they gain more and more independence. This is emotionally tough enough.

That’s why Amber Dental is here to help you! We want to do all we can to offer support as you try to instill good dental habits with your kids so they grow up making good oral health a priority.

Today, we’re sharing some ways that you can begin doing that. The younger your child is when he or she learns about the importance of good oral hygiene, the easier it will be for them to keep those healthy habits going all throughout their lives.

Begin Good Dental Habits Early On

The earlier you can start talking to your kids about the importance of brushing and flossing their teeth, the better! Even if they only have one tooth, you can begin the conversation about what teeth are for and why you should keep them strong and healthy as possible.

This will set them up for success when it comes to having a healthy mouth in adulthood. It’ll be a high priority that will feel like second nature to them.

Don’t worry if you’re getting a late start on teaching your kids about good oral hygiene! We’ll talk about ways to involve them in the process so even kids who are a bit older can have fun with it.

Model Good Oral Care For Them

Long before they reach that stage when everything parents say and do are an embarrassment, you are your child’s hero. Everything you do, they’ll want to do, too. That’s why it really helps to model the kind of healthy behavior you want them to practice later in life.

Kids are like sponges and will absorb all the same phrases and habits that they observe in you. So make sure you not only remind them when it’s time to brush their teeth, but that you let them see you brush and floss as well.

You can turn your nightly dental care routine into a bonding experience by making it something the family can do together. Not only will the kids look forward to spending that time with you, but you’ll be right there to guide them toward the proper technique for cleaning their teeth and gums.

Give Kids A Role To Play

Every child loves the chance to be in charge. If you give them a role to play in the oral hygiene process, they’ll be engaged and excited about participating.

You can empower them by letting them pick out their own toothbrush and toothpaste, for example. Bring them along during your next trip to the store and let them make some decisions. If they’re excited about the character or color of their new toothbrush or the yummy flavor of their toothpaste, you’re going to have a much easier time getting them to use those things everyday.

Speak Their Language

The American Dental Association recommends a two minute span for brushing your teeth. But even several seconds can feel like an eternity to a child who doesn’t yet have a matured inner clock! Luckily, you can help your kid stay more focused by speaking a language they understand.

Technology is a great resource for timing your kid’s brushing. Downloading a cool app to use as a timer is an effective way to keep your child engaged in the oral care routine.

Create A Reward System

If your child starts to associate taking care of their teeth with other good things, they’re more likely to stick with it. Creating a system that rewards them for their hard work and effort will make the oral care routine even more fun in your house!

Make Their First Dental Experience A Positive One!

Traumatic experiences at the dentist’s office in childhood can stay with a person well into adulthood. That’s why at Amber Dental, we go out of our way to make sure that your child’s visits with us are positive where they can have fun and feel safe.

If your child is ready for their first dental visit, or if it’s time to schedule their next checkup, call our Sterling Heights dental office today at 586-739-1111 or fill out our online form.

What’s On Your Dream Smile Wish List?

Creating your dream smile can seem like an overwhelming or intimidating process, but at Amber Dental, it’s far from it! That’s because you have a dedicated team of experienced professionals who can help you design a treatment plan to suit your smile goals and your budget.

But just like changing your appearance in other ways, changing your smile all begins by thinking about the kinds of things you’d like to change. What sort of flaws and imperfections would you like to fix?

Would You Like A Brighter, Whiter Smile?

When asked what they wished they could change about their smile, an overwhelming number of people would say they’d like whiter teeth. In fact, a recent poll among dentists revealed that professional teeth whitening was patients’ most requested treatment across the board.

At Amber Dental, you can whiten your smile in more than one way!

Professional Whitening – Those over-the-counter whitening kits simply don’t get the job done. That’s why patients love the power and convenience of our in-office Zoom whitening system, and our take-home whitening treatment option. You can erase years of stains that food and drinks have left behind for a dramatically whiter smile.

Dental Veneers – Sometimes we have stains or discoloration from things we can’t necessarily control, such as age, health condition, or prescription medications. In certain cases, whitening treatment isn’t enough.

Among the many things veneers can fix, giving you a radiantly whiter smile is one of them! We’ll talk more about what veneers can do for your smile next.

Would You Like To Repair A Damaged Smile?

Your teeth have a huge responsibility. They have to work very hard for a very long time, so it’s no surprise that they can experience some trauma over the years. You can crack or chip a tooth, which will only draw attention to it.

Another reason one tooth might stand out is because of its shape or position in comparison to your other teeth. Not all teeth come in looking the way they should in size or shape, which can lead to unwanted attention.

When things like this happen, it can really make you feel self-conscious about your smile overall.
Tooth Bonding – Using a tooth-colored resin, we can cover up minor chips and cracks in a beautiful, natural-looking way. Tooth bonding can even close very small gaps in between your teeth.

Dental Veneers – For a longer lasting, more durable solution, dental veneers are often used. This would be appropriate for larger chips, breaks, and gaps that plague your smile.

You can also cover those teeth that are too small, too large, or awkwardly shaped compared to your other teeth. Veneers work like instant orthodontics and whitening in one, which makes it a versatile option to repair, protect, and beautify your smile.

Would You Like A Straighter Smile?

Many adults wish they could do something about their crooked teeth but don’t want to wear traditional metal braces. It can be embarrassing to walk around with metal brackets and wires when you’re the only one! But orthodontics aren’t just for teens.

Invisalign – Adults who want a less noticeable way to correct crooked teeth can choose Invisalign for a straighter smile. Invisalign uses a series of plastic aligners that gently shift your teeth into proper position.

Not only is it much harder to tell that you’re receiving orthodontic treatment, Invisalign is more comfortable, removable so you can eat and clean your teeth more easily, and it’s a shorter treatment plan overall than traditional braces.

Save Our Sterling Heights Contact Info In Your Phone

One of the best ways to stay calm in any emergency is to have a plan in place before it even happens. Taking as much guesswork as you can out of the equation will help you focus on other things that will require your calm attention in the moment.

That’s why we suggest saving the phone number of our Sterling Heights dental office in your phone today so you can access help immediately during a dental emergency. Our staff can help you take the necessary steps to help save your teeth.

Stop Bleeding First!

While every emergency situation is different, one thing doesn’t change. If you’ve injured the soft tissues in and around the mouth, like lips, cheeks, gums, or your tongue, you’ll likely experiencing bleeding.

If that’s the case, it’s important to do what you can to stop any bleeding first by applying direct pressure to the injury. Make sure to use a clean cloth or sterile gauze when doing this. If you can’t get the bleeding under control, head to your closest emergency room. Then call Dr. Ardelean for your next steps.

Have A Home Dental Emergency Kit

Whether you purchase a ready-made dental emergency kit, or you create your own, having one in your home is a great way to be prepared. Be sure you keep it in a place that’s easy to remember and easy to access. Label the box clearly.

Common dental emergency kits might include items such as:

-A clean, dry washcloth

-Sterile gauze pads

-Small plastic baggies or a container with a lid

-OTC pain relievers

-Plastic Gloves

Other Tips For Dental Emergencies

Along with storing our contact information and a home dental emergency kit, here are some specific instructions to remember:

A Knocked Out Tooth

If you knock out a tooth and are able to find it, make sure you only pick it up by the crown and not the root end. Gently rinse it off and either try to put it back in its socket, inside your cheek, or in a sealable container filled with water or milk.

A Loose Tooth

To be on the safe side, you shouldn’t mess with a loose tooth or eat anything until you’ve had it looked at by Dr. Ardelean. You can use a cold compress or pain relievers, if needed, until you’re able to be seen.

A Damaged Or Broken Tooth

If your injury has resulted in a cracked, chipped, or broken tooth, you can rely on pain relievers to manage discomfort until you get to our dental office. Any swelling can be helped with a cold compress as well.

You should also give our office a call right away because the longer you wait to repair a damaged tooth, the more opportunity you’re giving the bad bacteria in your mouth to seep in a cause even bigger dental problems.

A Failed Restoration

If, for whatever reason, you have a broken dental crown or a leaky filling and can’t make it in to see Dr. Ardelean right away, dental cement can be an effective way to “fill” the damaged area for a day or two. Chances are we’ll be able to help you the same day, but if not, it’s a good idea to have dental cement in your home emergency kit.

Ever have one of those days that starts out with your alarm blaring, and you realize you hit the snooze button one too many times? You jump out of a bed and start racing through all your morning rituals hoping you’ll make it to work on time.

But that’s just wishful thinking because oversleeping has already set this terrible day in motion. In your rush to get out the door, you spill coffee all down your shirt, but you don’t have time to change.

You get on the road only to discover your normal route is congested by construction and lane closures. And the day just sort of gets worse from there.

We’ve all been there. It’s one of those days that’s plagued with problem after problem. On their own, the problems aren’t monumental or complicated. But when you face a series of problems one after the other or all at once, it can be really overwhelming!

Dental problems kind of work the same way. A cavity, for example, can most often be solved with a simple filling. But what if you have a cavity, and an infected or decayed tooth, and a loose tooth or a missing tooth? When dental problems pile up, the solution becomes more complicated.

Not at Amber Dental! Dr. Ardelean and our highly-trained team of professionals offer what’s known as a full-mouth reconstruction for patients who have multiple dental problems. Today’s blog will help you understand more about this comprehensive solution that restores smiles and gets you back to enjoying life.

But how do you know when it’s time for a full-mouth reconstruction? One of the main reasons a patient would need this is because they are missing one or more teeth and are at risk for losing more. But there are additional reasons for needing a full-mouth reconstruction. Here are just a few:

You Have Difficulty Chewing

If you’re having a hard time chewing because you’re missing a tooth or you’re experiencing pain when you chew, this will affect your life in many ways. You will probably avoid certain foods that require more bite power like corn on the cob, a thick steak, or a grilled chicken breast, for example.

You might also avoid crunchy fruits and vegetables like grilled asparagus, apples, or raw carrots. Or maybe you suddenly experience tooth sensitivity when something you eat or drink is too hot or too cold.

When your dietary options are being limited because of pain, this could impact your nutrition and eventually affect your overall health. A full-mouth reconstruction can fix the problems that are making it hard for you to enjoy delicious, healthy foods that you love!

You’re In Pain

You should never ignore pain, whether it’s happening in your mouth or anywhere else in your body. It’s your body’s way of letting you know that something isn’t right, and you need to let a skilled professional get to the root cause of your pain.

If you have pain with one specific tooth, or if you feel pain in a more general area around your teeth and gums, something is wrong and it needs to be fixed before whatever is causing it becomes worse.

That’s where a full-mouth reconstruction can help you. Dr. Ardelean will thoroughly exam your teeth and gums, find out what’s causing the pain, and provide a restorative treatment to get you out of pain, and on the road to better oral health.

You’re Embarrassed By Problems With Your Smile

Gaps in your smile because of missing teeth or damage to your teeth from injury, wear and tear, or oral health issues will make you feel self-conscious. Being embarrassed by your smile is going to have a negative impact on your life in so many ways.

A full-mouth reconstruction helps restore function to your teeth, but also results in a more attractive smile, one that you’ll be proud to off!

Let Dr. Ardelean Help You Find Solutions

Even if you have just one of the problems we talked about today, you should make an appointment with Dr. Ardelean. You may need a full-mouth reconstruction, or there might be a simpler solution to the problems with your smile.

Dr. Ardelean and our skilled staff are the only ones who can help you know for sure. Whatever dental problems are affecting your life, we can help restore your smile and get you back to the high quality of life you deserve and a smile you’ll love!

Don’t put off finding solutions! Call our office TODAY at 586-739-1111 or fill out our online form to schedule a consultation for our restorative dentistry options.

Technology has advanced so quickly in the last few years. A decade ago, you probably wouldn’t find a computer in every home. But with the popularity of the smartphone, it seems like everyone has the internet literally at their fingertips.

That means we’ve all gotten pretty used to the concept of powering down, and powering up. You know how it goes. You can always tell when it’s time for a software update because your phone or computer will start to act a little out of whack.

So you plug in, install the update, and then your device will restart. It’s quite convenient how that simple process requires very little effort from you, but it makes a big difference with how well everything works after that.

Wouldn’t it be nice if a simple restart would work in all areas of your life? Well, it can. At Amber Dental, you’ll find a versatile solution to multiple dental problems.

We’re talking about dental veneers, and just like your laptop and smartphone, they offer a way to restart your smile, and it’s almost as simple as those software updates you’ve become used to!

Dr. Ardelean and our team in Sterling Heights are bringing you today’s blog to help you decide if veneers are just what you need this summer to restart your smile.

Veneers Are Like The Software Update Of Dentistry

Veneers have taken hold of modern dentistry in their ability to restore, protect, and beautify a person’s smile with minimal effort.

They are ultra-thin shells that are bonded to your teeth and then shaped to perfection for an attractive, natural-looking smile. Along with an improved appearance, veneers work to cover up minor damage such as cracks, chips, or gaps in your smile.

But that’s only a fraction of what veneers can accomplish. Let’s take a look at how veneers give your teeth the update it needs!

They’re A Multi-Purpose Solution

Veneers are one of the few options in modern dentistry that serve multiple functions. They don’t just fall into a cosmetic category because, although they do result in a beautiful smile, they’re also strong enough to repair damage and protect your teeth for years to come. This means they’re just as valuable when it comes to teeth that need to be restored.

They Improve Your Smile And Your Life

Where do we begin? Just like an update and restart for your smartphone, veneers make your smile look and feel young again. By covering chips and cracks in your teeth, they’ve smoothed over years of use. Because of that, you have a more youthful looking smile. Just like when you restart a computer after an update, you notice all your apps have a revamped, improved appearance!

When you come to Amber Dental for veneers, you leave our office and step into a fresh start with a gorgeous, confident smile that can help you find the courage to pursue all the things you felt you couldn’t before. If you’re unhappy with the flaws in your smile, it’s hard to feel brave enough to put yourself out there. With veneers, you feel like you can take on the world!

They’re Easy To “Install”

Applying dental veneers is a minimally invasive process. Your tooth enamel is carefully and gently filed down to allow the veneers to bond to your teeth more easily. This makes it quite a painless process, and one that requires very little effort from you!

They Straighten Out The Kinks In Your Smile

Not only do veneers cover minor damage, but they also straighten and balance crooked and misshapen teeth for a lovely, uniformed new look. They’re like instant orthodontics, except you don’t have to wait years for the desired result. Again, just like restarting a computer, veneers work out all the kinks in your smile for smoother look and function!

Time To Update And Restart Your Smile?

Are you ready to restart your smile for an improved look, better feel, and smoother function? Then it’s time to make an appointment with our talented, Dr. Ardelean, to find out if dental veneers are the new software install your smile needs!
